Copying, Stalking and Shop Deletions on Etsy

EDM Designs used to be a supplies seller, until she discovered my shop. Every time I made a sale, she “magically” came up with a “new and original design” exactly like mine within a week to 10 days. She also copied my listings almost word for word, including titles.

Admin told me to deal with her directly and “work it out”, which led to a series of abusive emails from her threatening my business, my life, and my 4 year old daughter. I have sent the emails, with full headers to Etsy, and some other trace backs as well that prove that it’s the same IP address. When I reported the email threats to admin, their response was “Thanks for letting us know” – and nothing else.

She has also been finding out who has been blogging about my work, and posting (as someone else) that she bought from me, and that my work arrived broken, badly made, not looking like the pictures, etc.

She’s a total and complete psycho, without an original bone in her body. She has now moved on to copying other jewelers on Etsy, and their complaints have also gone unheeded by admin. When Etsy admin got tired of hearing me complain about all of the copyright violations they decided that the best thing to do would be to close both of MY stores.

You know, if she were just copying my work, I’d be pissed, but “that’s the way business works”. Copying my words is just plain crappy and unethical, and even threatening ME I might be able to understand – but threatening the life of a 4 year old child is beyond belief. The fact that Etsy is protecting EDM Designs is just disgusting.

And so on…

Hi this might be a little late comment, but it seems they are keeping the people that bring big money to them and protect them over good and honest sellers,

  2. Juanjo 03/28/2014 11:02 pm

etsy sucks!!!! Keep away from etsy, world is wonderful, etsy must go out of the world.

  3. Casey 03/18/2014 5:58 pm

Etsy still shuts down shops with NO notice or reasoning whatsoever. It just happened to me on March 7, 2014. When I reached out to Etsy, I received vague form letter emails regarding copyright and shop association–NONE OF WHICH I AM GUILTY! I put a lot of time and money into my shop (just did taxes and realized I spent more than I made), yet I loved my little shop as it was my creative outlet. I’ll be honest–I now feel a mixture of wishing Etsy would reopen my shop and regret at that fact that I invested so much into a venue that did not invest in me. Without the money to hire a lawyer, what am I to do?

  4. Rivkasmom 12/09/2013 5:01 pm

Hey all you lovely people (and one ugly one!)

Since my health has taken a rather nasty turn for the worse, it looks like any steampunk items I have will be the last of their kid. My eyes and hands are no longer on the best of terms, and the rest of me is going south in a somewhat alarming fashion.

If you would like to get some of these “soon to be artifacts”, go to my website and check out with coupon code WHOLESALE for 50% off of everything in the store. A couple of items might not be in stock, if that is the case I’ll either refund your money, or replace it with a similar (or even slightly higher) priced item.

A little extra income would help me out a lot at this time of the year, and you can get all your shopping done in one place!

Wishing you all a happy (belated) Chanukah, a Merry Christmas, and a festive Yule.

  5. Rivkasmom 12/09/2013 4:40 pm

None of this even matters anymore. Now Etsy allows people to make ONE item, ship it to China, and have it copied a hundred zillions times. Get the copies sent back to the US, and now you have a collective collaboration! Hooray, cheap mass produced handmade for everyone, and now it’s “Etsy-legal”!

You know what really sucks? I’m almost happy that I’ve become too disabled to do much jewelry work anymore. Between my hand tremors and my failing eyesight, I can’t really afford to spare much energy for creative work. Nevermind the energy I’d need to photograph, list and promote everything.

Knowing that I’m out of the game makes it hurt less in a small way, but on the same level it makes me horribly sad for all of the wonderful, incredibly talented artisans out there who put their heart and soul into their work they way I used to.

A lot of the really good artisans are going to Artfire. If you need the real deal, try looking over there. Unless I’m mistaken, they haven’t been taken over by the greedy eyed monster – yet.

It’s Regretsy that is going around & getting these poor shops shut down-they need 2 be stopped-thry admit 2 it & brag about it on their secret site & chat rooms & even plot what shop they are going 2 close down next & they get a joy over .

  7. Rainbowgirlfan 09/14/2013 9:29 pm

Here’s one of the links about Regretsy: . I would have given the link sooner, but I had trouble finding this page again since Regretsy made Facebook remove the Regretsy Recovery Healing page.

  8. Rainbowgirlfan 09/14/2013 9:24 pm

Wow! Regretsy has tampered w/ several of my accounts, even accounts that weren’t even related to selling, then they brag about it.

  9. Rainbowgirlfan 09/06/2013 4:06 pm

Hi, these people who lie on people’s shops are from a web site known as Regretsy. They are a mob who ban together and do this stuff. They did it to me and bragged about it on their blogs & I can provide links 2 prove it if you want.

  10. Anonymous 08/18/2013 3:58 pm

EDM is the McDonalds or Walmart of the Steampunk World (I read that in this threa somewhere) and the owner has a horrific reputation of being an ass. The best thing to do it ignore her. The truly successful artists go beyond the reaches of Etsy to protect themselves and open their own secondary or primary websites. Good for you Rivkasmom!!

  11. Silenced by Etsy 08/17/2013 5:34 pm

Etsy has revised their forums so that many experienced sellers have now been permanently muted (ie silenced) for reasons that are trivial in the extreme. You can use a saying or expression that you would willingly repeat in front of your elderly grandmother. However someone reports it as “disrespectful” or “mean” or “negative” and you get a warning.

Three warnings and you are OUT!

    Thats what happened to me.

There is a mean and vicious clique on Etsy whose members are “in the business” of being upset. It is they who need to be kicked off Etsy.

The forum rules are now so nebulous and untransparent that it is difficult to know what you can post. Even posting on a thread where you agree with everyone else is not safe.

Etsy does not like the people who ask the “difficult” questions or who make too much “noise”

They say they are a community but the communities they remind me of most were those Fascist regimes (Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia) which ran on cowardly informers and where people looked the other way when unpleasant things happened.

  12. JM 05/01/2013 6:18 pm

Hi everyone! I just stumbled across your site by doing a search “why does everyone copy each other on etsy?” I too have a newly minted store on Etsy (although I also maintain my own website). I am new to all this but the one thing that I keep noticing is how much everyone copies each other on etsy. How fricking annoying! Now I am reading these horror stories and I am having second thoughts about Etsy, especially since I have very unique soap designs.

  13. Screwed by Etsy 04/30/2013 12:49 am

If you are visiting this post if because most probably you are another disgruntled Etsy seller, just like us, both our stores were shut down for no reason, after 4 years of selling on Etsy and 100% positive feedback, our story is here: Plus other important info.
We have also made a video portraying their practices:

This video is intended to bring a bit of laughter to all affected by these extreme creeps and educate the ones who have no clue about their practices. So check it out, enjoy it and share!

  14. bobby 12/13/2012 8:18 pm

Uhg, I am so sorry that you have gone thru this! I have had the same problem, but its happened on facebook, and now they stalk me on etsy and make fake accounts to bother me Smh. Some girl my age started taking some of MY original work, claiming it was hers, then, pathetically, she doesn’t stand up for herself but her mom does all the bashing, they’ve made over 20(YES 20) Fake facebook accounts to bother and bash all the people who they’ve been stealing designs from SMH. and we both got etsy shops around the same time, not only do they stalk me but looking at my stats I KNOW they look at my shop, and etsy don’t do a damn thing

  15. Aradia G. of Aradia's Hand 11/21/2012 1:58 am

Grace/Rivkasmom I’m very sorry you had that experience but good for you you went with your own website! That really is the way to go IMO to get out and “make it big”.

I too, once in a blue moon, used to sell at Etsy. I had to leave for reasons unrelated to this thread but after reading this I certainly wouldn’t want to go back. I love steampunk and to have to deal with such an awful creature and such biased and utter BS is not worth the time it would take to set up shop!

For all you sellers (or potential) out there considering opening up a shop. There are plenty of other e-commerce that have handmade on them Artfire is one, but Storenvy is another. I used to sell on Artfire and I had no problem with them or their community but I have since decided to be 100% with Storenvy. For those who don’t know about Storenvy, it’s 100% free to start a shop and it’s FULLY customizable – not just a profile picture & a small banner. You can also link a domain name (so you aren’t a subdomain of Storenvy) and they are very prompt and cordial with you and actually communicate! While I don’t mean this to be a shameless plug of Storenvy I do want other sellers to not lose hope with having a store because of this ill attitude & treatment from Etsy. is my shop and you can see some fairly simple customization there.

*I get no compensation for mentioning Storenvy, it’s just me being friendly and helpful.*

  18. Saia 08/16/2012 11:12 pm

    Hei everyone!

Thank you sooo much for this blog post and all the shared stories! I’m currently in an exact the same situation as everyone else has written here. I took matters in my own hands and warned my customers about the possible run down of the shop, and after reading your experiences, I’m guessing I’ll be closed within next 24hours. I’ll tell you more in detail when it happens, but just wanted to give you guys a big thank you because your posts made me copy all my listings which have required huge amount of time and effort, and even copied all of my favourite and most personal feedbacks as a token from my lovely customers worldwide.

I’ve been absolutely shattered for a past 7-ish days while this farce has been going on, I’ve sheepishly responded to ridiculous (and quite likely illegal-) demands by Etsy. My livelihood isn’t dependable on Etsy, but I’ve been so upset, humiliated and threatened by their attitude and behaviour. It’s just a shop, but I will miss and feel very saddened to lose all my fabulous customers who have been amazing, supportive and just kind in every wonderful way:(

  19. Alexander Skeete 07/07/2012 5:35 am

Good day! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering if you knew where I could locate a captcha plugin for my comment form? I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m having trouble finding one? Thanks a lot!

EDM is not the Tiffany of Steampunk, she’s the Mcdonalds. Real Steamers avoid her like the plague and there was even a song written about her kind of mass produced crap called “Glue a Gear on it” or something like that. Most of her sales are fake and so is the 1/2 page long feedback. Fake. She’s a world class Vapid “C” and she actually is proud of it. Lets see. Age 55+, vapid, hateful and angry. Even her suppliers think she’s a “C”. If that isn’t a heart attack waiting to happen, I don’t know what is.

  21. Rose 04/10/2012 5:24 pm

So very disheartening to read this horror story – and yet, sadly, not at all surprising. Etsy shut my shop down last month for alleged ‘copyright infringement’ (a bracelet with a Hunger Games phrase that I didn’t know was copyrighted because it was on hundreds of other items throughout Etsy; I would have been happy to remove it and not repost it, but they gave me no right of appeal). After I sent an email asking if I could please have access to my shop stats, Etsy has now shut down my mother’s shop (inactive recently, but opened several years ago) and my sister in law’s new shop. No idea how they connected those shops to mine, but they were shut down right after I sent the email and neither of them received a word of explanation. Now I’m scared they’re going to shut down my daughter’s shop and my friends’ shops.
I have had to correspond with Jason at and have been saddened by his condescending, unprofessional tone and refusal to answer legitimate questions.
I too have moved to ArtFire; I wish it was a busier venue, but maybe in time it will begin to compete more with Etsy. Surely their poor customer service will eventually catch up with them…

  22. mahagany 02/23/2012 4:57 am

speaking of that nasty heifer, someone needs to set her up, and GOOD!! this just made up my mind to NOT sell on CRUSTY ETSY!! thank you sooo much for this article!!

  23. Tiffany 12/22/2011 4:17 pm

WOW!! This is so sad, I almost feel like Etsy is in favor of people like this, I don’t get what’s going on. I had an Etsy seller, just yesterday steal my photos and create a listing for the item as her own. I reported it to Etsy and they basically told me we don’t get in the middle of this. The seller removed my photos once I contacted them but the shop was not reprimanded at all! Yet one time I canceled a transaction because the buyer never sent me a check and had my whole shop closed for fee avoidance. I am working so hard to make sure Etsy is not core site for my business I wish I would have know all this sooner I would have started out on Artfire and put all the work into them. Thanks for sharing this, I am so sorry this happened to you!

Reading heartbroken x 2 I have been muted silenced banned from forums.
Etsys disgusting why I don’t post my shops I’m facing deletion right now and freaking out. Silenced in th forums already on four accounts, no warning, I cant even get tech support to treat me like a human
    My heart hurts for u

  25. Heart broken x 2 12/15/2011 12:49 am

I can relate to the poor customer service and the fact that Etsy takes things too personally. They are not professional in the slightest.

I had my art store since early 2008. Handmade paintings..drawings. All original and original characters. I had over 200 sales. I forgot to pay a .20 cent overdue fee and my credit card was in my fiance’s name and has been since I first had my art store. We have a joint bank account. I gave them all of the proof that it’s my store and even wanted to put the store in my own debit card. My fiance and I played e-mail tag with them for 2 weeks submitting proof of identity. They sent me an e-mail today saying they have permanently banned me. I can’t even buy anything from them. They wiped my artistic reputation and all of the images of my artwork off the face of the planet. I only had the chance to save a couple of images before they deleted my account. I lost irreplaceable pictures and my customer base today. Devastated is not even the right word to describe me right now. I really can’t believe this. I had 100% positive feedback..and such nice feedback from wonderful people. I don’t really know what to do or what I can do about this.

  26. Juan Mullin 10/27/2011 4:31 am

Foremost, let me commend your lucidness on this subject. I am not a trained on this topic, but after analyzing your article, my expertise has bettered well. Please allow me to snatch up your rss feed to stay in touch with any forthcoming updates. Complete business and will fall out it on to admirers and my web site followers.

  27. Grace aka Rivkasmom 08/05/2011 1:26 am

Hey, if anyone is wondering what has happened to me, I am alive and well! You can find me at My two Artfire stores are Rivkasmom and RivkasmomSupplies, and I just got approved to sell on! (Amazon makes you jump through some CRAZY hoops if you’re selling handmade, it takes about a month and a half, and at least a dozen emails with their Quality Control Associates.)

Hope to see you soon, and thanks for supporting REAL handmade! :-D

  28. Maddy 07/24/2011 7:15 am

For those struggling to find the negative feedback, there’s a big, paranoid cluster about August 24 2009, and the one copied-and-pasted above from 4 April 2009.
There is also a big spaz on 26 Jan 2011 and an even bigger one for 31 Dec 2010 (which is probably the one found by I care). It’s the best! Here, for your viewing pleasure:

This Buyer has some serious issues – have a look at the bitter tone and vulgar language used within by a supposed Adult just to express any type of dissapointment – Sad and Pathetic….Firstly, the ring base is precisely the one used to make thousands of rings in the past and used by jewelry artisans the world over – and I use them in all finishes to the delight of all my customers who have received them. They are sold by the top selling jewelry suppliers in the US, and not some cheaply made rendition coming out of the Far East. I will certainly continue to use them without any doubt in all the finishes along with my hand turned own ring base designs…………Despite having a record of THREE Convos to this Buyer with Etsy, the claims are simply false – she was responded to each and every time, even if it was a few days later than she expected – she was given a full response, thus she has spoken another untruth…………..But, yet again, in an effort to make this customer happy and not have her disgruntled as that is not my objective with anyone, I have offered her every option known to mankind to make her happy and all have been refused…….I ask anyone with a sensible and logical mind, WHY would you refuse a replacement, or a store credit, or a substitute of any kind and above ALL a FULL monetary refund for the purchase and send back the so called defective ring for inspection?…….Now, unless people are truly stupid, one can only surmise that any of a number of issues are at play here…..Either the ring is in fact flawless and the Buyer thrives of leaving untruthful statements in an effort to tarnish a stellar reputation, the Buyer has no regard for the value of money (in which case send the money to a charity, God knows there are too many to count and select one that may carry special meaning), or the Buyer is simply mean-spirited, bitter at the world and malicious. You know the type I mean…..nothing would ever be good enough. Its sad………Nothing else would even come close to a modicum of logic or sensibility…….Clearly an unstable individual…..It must hurt to be so miserable…..I will say a prayer that the Buyrer find peace from within to quell any demons that might be haunting………At this juncture, all offers are recinded…….I will ask that the Buyer never come near my shop again. Buyer should be ashamed of their lies and behaviors. Sellers beware……..Oh, and please don’t ever use profanities and vulgarities in any communications to anyone who works here or in feedback. It will never make you righteous – it will always be an ugly trait.

This drove me to go hunting for whatever the original feedback was that prompted this response. Except there IS no negative feedback? (100% positive?) Perhaps it was this neutral feedback from Dec 23 2010 that prompted the outburst?

“The earrings were lower quality than I would expect for what I paid. I would not recommend buying from this seller. I know that I won’t be doing so.”

Hmmm, not profane enough. Ahhh, I found a couple, on Jan 9 and 10 2011, but they’re too late, obviously. But one of them prompted the Jan 26 spaz.

    The original feedback:
“I was charged $USD 18 for postage to Australia. This seemed reasonable if the parcel were to be sent safely. As it was sent in an ordinary envelope lined with bubble wrap, minimal protection, the vaunted “presentation box” was crushed beyond use. The cufflinks were unharmed. I note also that the cost of this postage was in fact $1.44, plus presumably the cost of the envelope. Who’s making this rather large profit?”

    EDM’s (uptight) response:
“We do not deliver parcels by hand on all seven continents. We are NOT responsible for how the parcel arrives from the point it leaves here. ALL our parcels are shipped in excellent packaging and go beyond what is required by anyone. Everyone is happy and raves about the presentation…..YOU seem to be the ONLY one with an issue. No, we will never package our jewelry in a steel vault and have the Postal System bring your goods to you as it appears you would have liked. Unreal…… Your goods arrived in less than a week to Australia, you claim they are beautiful, yet you leave negative feedback?…..Offered you a refund on the shipping difference due to the labeling not being Global(although you received these gorgeous cufflinks in the same amount of time) and you still feel the need to be miserable? Makes no sense…..We do not profit from shipping, you’re waaaaaay off base, woman!…..We offered to Kiss and Make up so you’re satisfied because you already wrote twice saying the cufflinks are gorgeous, so one can only understand there is a serious lacking on your part to work with the Commmunity on Etsy to be part of a wonderful experience. We are saddened for you. Please shop elsewhere in the future.”

Um, yes, you ARE responsible for how the parcel arrives. You need to package it in a way that makes sure that what you have sold someone arrives in that condition, excepting the package being dropped from a great height/squashed etc. if that’s the case, you are apologetic and take it up with your delivery people rather than ridiculing your customer and telling them to shop elsewhere (as if they needed that kind of advice).

I used to think Etsy was a place to sell original work, and be a part of a community. Well, now I am losing my faith in Etsy. It is obvious that they do NOT care about community, and they really do NOT care about the sellers. They don’t even enforce their own so- called “rules”! They would allow that woman to STEAL from you,and threaten you and your families lives! They also allow people to sell hate on Etsy. I won’t even elaborate on what that means, because frankly,I don’t want sickos on Etsy to become famous. I am so sorry for the way that sick woman treated you,and I am also really sorry that Etsy had the nerve to shut you down. They treat people like crap. They are just another cold corporation looking to feed their greed and make more money.

  31. I care 01/19/2011 7:41 am

I just now found your site and sorry for what happened to you. I think this seller on Etsy has ties within the etsy community. Look at the very top feedback on this newer post go to 1st item on this page. I think based on that , any other seller would def. be kicked off as this is slamming. Someone needs to report her.

  32. Annoyed 01/17/2011 11:29 pm

Opps, my Math was off… Its like 99 percent, but still…. Everything else isnt adding up……

  33. Annoyed 01/17/2011 11:23 pm

Lets take a look at her feedback from customers and give her the benefit of the doubt with the false feedback she leaves herself…..
Out of 8723 sales she has only 1775 feedbacks from customers. 27 of which are neutral and 14 are negative. 3 neutrals usually count as 1 negative, so lets do the math…. 1775/21=84% (if you dont count the 1665 feedbacks left from supply sellers on Etsy).

SO, her FEEDBACK RATING is actually 84%!!! EIGHTY FOUR PERCENT!!!!

But that brings us to another question…. If you look at other sellers on Etsy, its typically 1 in 3 customers that leave feedback. So why is Ricky’s so much lower coming in at 1 in 5 customers?

Hmm….. The numbers just arent adding up…. ;-)

  34. Annoyed 01/17/2011 11:14 pm

She has 100% feedback because 90% of her feedback is from supply sellers on Etsy, NOT customers. AT LEAST 75% of her sales are FAKE. And she constantly tries to claim that every dissatisfied customer is Grace Acosta, which they ARENT. Charging $195 for a ring made from components made is China and cost .75 cents and are GLUED together is bound to get some negative responses from buyers. Couple that with charging $28 for international shipping when she DOES NOT ship Registered or Priority Mail. NOPE! She ships First Class International with costs all of $2.50 and gets a ‘Certificate of Mailing’ which is good for nothing if the item gets lost and only costs $1.

Her attitude is HORRENDOUS and she is constantly attacking and trying to intimidate other sellers on Etsy, even going so far as saying “It would be unhealthy for you to continue selling on Etsy”. Seriously. This is a 50+ year old woman we are talking about. With kids! And she has the gall to speak this way to people? Wheres the maturity in that? Think critically about the number of sales she has and compare that with the number of feedback that was left from customers. Ricky and her minions make fake accounts and buy items from her store and then leave PAGES of glowing FALSE feedback. REAL customers dont usually take the time to write *pages*. She does, though. Look at other seller’s legit feedback and compare.

  35. Michelle 11/11/2010 3:56 am

I just stumbled upon this site–I saw EDMDesign’s stuff on etsy, saw they were in NYC and thought I’d see if they had a store there. And so I googled and found many sites–including this one. What I don’t understand: how come EDM has 100% positive feedback? I’m not getting that part. I’m staying clear away from them but I’m a little concerned about the feedback part. To the average person (me) looking to buy something, the first thing I look at is the number of feedbacks and the percentage of positive ones. If you can’t depend on that, how are you supposed to make an informed decision to purchase something?

  36. DC 08/24/2010 9:50 pm

I have ordered an item from EDM Designs about 3 weeks ago. A week later, my item “shipped.” I waited well over a week for it, yet still haven’t arrived up to this day. My messages have gone unanswered as well. I should of read all this before purchasing from EDM. I also browsed through EDM’s feedback and if it’s a negative post, she retorts with nasty comments.

  37. AGodGiven 08/18/2010 3:06 am

Thanks to Etsy’s new seller features, you can now see EXACTLY how EDM Designs fakes 90% of her sales. Just check her sold items record and notice how many items in ONE HOUR have “sold”…like 13 items in one hour, for example? Every few hours a MASSIVE mount of sales is there, sprinkled in and out with a few real ones. She is not selling 20 items a day as she would have the public believe. Ha! More like 3! This little scam of hers has finally been revealed because you never used to see the HOUR that a sale was received, only the calender date! FOR ONCE —–> THANK YOU, ETSY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. Connie 08/12/2010 4:34 pm

OMG! The same exact thing happened to me, and Etsy supported this psycho and terminated my account. She kept copying my creations (which my attorney is now pursuing)and filing a claim that I was copying her! Then she stated I wasn’t making my creations and filed another claim! So then I had repetitive ‘Policy Violations’ (She worked that system!)! Etsy gave me 2 days to provide them with photos of each step of making my 75 creations, along with step by step instructions. I finished the instructions in this unreasonable amount of time with a few photos. When I couldn’t generate all of the info in a nano second, this is the response I got:

“Hello, Thank you so much for providing this information. We’ve looked over the material you submitted, but unfortunately this did not confirm the items in your shop are handmade by you. I’m very sorry but this is not enough information to show us that you are hand making each of your items. I’m so sorry that we cannot continue our service with you.

We have deeply appreciated your interest in Etsy and its Community. You have been an important customer. At this time, however, Etsy has elected to revoke your account privileges permanently. We do not make such decisions without great consideration, but recent policy violations committed by one or more of your accounts has brought us to the conclusion that our business relationship must now come to a close.

Your selling privileges will be suspended effective immediately. We ask that you or an agent acting on your behalf do not create new accounts on Etsy without prior express permission from Etsy Administration. We also ask that you close any and all active Etsy accounts. Accounts created or used without permission will be terminated without warning.

This letter should not be construed as a waiver of any rights by Etsy, Inc.

We wish you the best. (Yeah Right! Don’t worry, you couldn’t convince me to have a totally free Etsy Account in a million!)

Wow, Shedding Faith I see what you mean. EDMdesign’s return feedback for people who have left negative or even “nice” neutral feedback is NASTY and awful.

Check this out.. here is some really kind nuetral feedback someone left for EDMdesigns. (the link is from the buyers page and it is the feedback with the brown square and white circle next to it)

Then check out how nasty the feedback EDMdesigns left for her in return is (it’s the feedback with the red square and white minus sign in it)

You can also see feedback EDMdesigns has left for others by clicking on “left for others” under her feedback from her shop. You kind of have to skim through quite a few as she has alot of sales and alot of feedback, but it is all there. She is nasty. She is like a dark black hole, dark soul in a sexy wolfs costume.

You can also check out her cheap supplies she buys by clicking on the feedback from “from sellers” on her store page. You can then click on the picture of the items she buys and it will take you to the supply sellers website where you can check out there store and see how much they charge for the same or similar supplies.

I wish there was a better way to get the truth about her out. I would think most people would want to know considering the degree of how rotten she is and what she has done to people. I think it would really sway people from buying her jewelry and supporting her. Plus the negligence on etsy’s part.

  40. SheddingFaith 11/25/2009 12:16 am

Ricky’s feedback for anyone who posts negative or neutral should be reason enough to have her kicked off etsy. You cannot debase or insult someone like that in any other public selling space! The ONLY reason she has not been removed is because she is ass pals with Emily Bidwell from etsy admin – a strategic and deliberate “friendship” if you ask me. Just like the way she “befriended” the designer at TheSteampunkTrunk and now she is no longer making pocket watch necklaces, cufflinks, (or anything else that might “interfere” with Ricky’s sales) for fear of “falling out” with her! So now TheSteampunktrunk’s sales have dropped and the jewelry being produced is all copycat crap! Some people are so stupid.

  41. cho 11/23/2009 8:40 pm

Ugh I flipped through a few of the EDM links and her listing text is awfully vicious. Long paragraphs about originality and “copies” or a huge paragraph about copyrights and how so and so will be enforced and PUNISHMENT. Her writing is all very IN YOUR FACE. I’m sorry to hear about all of this, my support goes out to you. I too was considering an Etsy shop and now I’m very paranoid -_-

  42. Baggles 11/18/2009 2:51 pm

Truthfully, Etsy provides a way for people to sell things that have not been approved by any part of the American government. They sell food without a permit from the health department. Do we know who is really baking those cookies and that they are not riddled with cockroach eggs or human feces? Etsy is a disaster waiting to happen.

  43. Anonymous 11/18/2009 1:30 am

Her work is just HIGHLY overpriced junk. (EDM Designs) She uses cheap metals. Just look through her feedback and you can see where she buys her supplies from. CHEAP stuff.

I remember when some other sellers first initiated selling the steampunk goggles. Shortly after EDM Designs started making and selling the same thing. I remember thinking that it must have really sucked for the person to have their designs copyrighted and copied by EDM.

I am just someone who was searching for negative etsy experiences on google and didn’t expect to find this thread. I didn’t know anything about EDM Designs except the goggles thing before I read this post…. wow.

  44. Anonymous 11/18/2009 1:09 am

EDM Designs makes etsy money, nuff said. They are not ethical in alot of cases… they go with where the money flow is. It’s sad cause I used to really love etsy.

  45. heart broke 10/24/2009 11:10 am

Our shop was closed also.( Because we are now still trying to get it back, we currently do not tell our shop name).

I am a designer, i sell my own line on Etsy. We had 100% positive feedback. And was very popular among buyers. Our sale was about 10 pieces each day. After it was deleted, a lot of buyers protest for us, wrote letters to them. All got NO RESPOND.

Since our shop was closed, we spent time doing a research. What we found shocked us.

Etsy EMPLOYEES HAVE THEIR OWN SHOPS on Etsy!!! They delete any shop which may cause a competition to them. So they would grab any tiny mistake we made, as an excuse, to get rid of us.

We also found, In Etsy’s Daily mail , SHOWCASE, “HAND PICKED ITEMS” on homepage. They post their own shop’s thing constantly.

Until now, the following shops are what we believe is their OWN SHOP, or their friends’ shop:

Those shops have the following common feature: 1) They are all based in New York 2) Their thing was featured in showcase, homepage, emails A LOT. Sometimes, we found “artlab” is on showcase EVERYDAY!! 3) If They have conflict with other sellers, They always WIN !!

    Here is our story:

We are a garment studio . We made everything from scratch to finishes. Our thing was very popular in Etsy. We can sell at least 10 clothes everyday. However, suddenly, on day, a seller ” artlab” who also sell fashion designs, wrote us a very impolite message, ” DO YOU MAKE EVERYTHING BY YOURSELF. ” We replies very politely, ” We replied: ” Yes, thank for visiting.” Then she wrote back, ” Why you copy my name of the clothes. ” It is funny, we name our clothing ” black coat 1#”, ” black coat 2#”, i think every global human being know 1# and 2# are just the way to distinguish two coats. However, she insists 1# and 2# is her way, and we copied ” the way she name her clothes”. It is so funny, and ridiculous, so we finally replied, and said: if you keeping writing to you, we could sue you!” Right after we sent that mail, about 10 minutes later. We were not able to log in, Our shop was closed!!!

We tried to write to them, our buyers write protest letters for us,NO RESPOND.

We are soooooo angry for this. Why we should keep silence. How can they shut down a shop this way!!! Different from other sellers, we were full time Etsy sellers, we put ” all of our egg in the basket”. However, it was gone. Right now, we still have our fabric. because our sale in Etsy became big, we purchased a lot of fabric in stock. We are not American , we do not know American laws. But we really do not understand why a company has the right to do so.

  46. pot 10/18/2009 3:07 am

Ricky is a copy cat thief. I can’t wait till karma pays her back. DO NOT BUY FROM edmdesigns AT ETSY. She is a con artist and certified hack. She will copy from ANYONE and EVERYONE. And the nerve to act like she invented steampunk style of jewelry?!?! HAhahahahahha I am seriously laughing at how dumb that thief is. Yeah you invented using gears in steampunk HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

You went from a supply seller to a straight up thief.

  47. Puhleeze 09/24/2009 6:24 am

  50. Judge&Jury 08/30/2009 3:31 pm

OMG, you’re right, check out this feedback, she obviously has alot of people who don’t like her. It’s hard to believe so much drama would surround a person if she wasn’t the key ingredient, karma baby! Talk about LOOSE CANNONS, LOL!!!!!!!!!!

Here is the feedback I came across:

YOU HAVE SOME NERVE! This ring base can EASILY be adjusted from a size 4 anywhere up to 12.

I told you specifically to state your desired ring size in the comments of your checkout and add it to the comments upon payment. I size HUNDREDS of rings all the time and do not sit and memorize every one of them – that is why you were told to leave your ring size with your order and I would happily size it for you.

I have no reason not to size yours to fit. The fact that YOU FAILED TO REMEMBER to do so is NOT my issue. Did you even bother to write when you received it to ASK if I could take it back to adjust after YOU FORGOT TO FOLLOW SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS ?? No – you did not. As a new memeber of Etsy you have A LOT to learn here before you can expect to have ANY success as a Seller. Your first lesson to learn is proper communications and responsibilty. When you get those down to a perfected science, you may then entertain the notion of becoming some sort of *cough cough* “Seller” as HOME OF THE BAD EGG, as your name indicates.

One more thing, check out the negative feedback she leaves her buyers, it gives you a glimpse into the real Ricky, such an ugly soul.

  52. Anonymous 08/30/2009 8:16 am

I know about Ricky, and she is one nasty B. Yes, she rips off constantly, it’s blatant, and it is very disheartening that Etsy supports her, but it’s ALL about the money where Etsy is concerned. Ricky is a bully and takes great pride in her unethical behavior, I’m sure she has a big smile on her face while she reads all of this. She is beyond redemption. I saw that ‘hugs to EB ‘ , how nauseating, but not surprising. Etsy needs to get a moral compass, but I don’t think that will happen anytime soon.

  53. Mandy 08/29/2009 1:08 am

I agree, this is low i just stumbled upon this after seeing an ad for this designer in a mag and i do not believe in supporting designer and i cant understand why etsy would allow this.I’ve been hearing alot of bad things about etsy recently and i for one will not be shopping with them and supporting this obviously corrupt company.
I’m so glad i found this site to keep informed and i do feel bad for any one with true talent on etsy, this Ricky is just waiting to prey on.
    I’ll spread word

Sorry to the poster of this blog that you had to deal with all this i feel for you

I can’t help but notice that you are not providing proof that you did not copy Grace. Care to share? Because unless you can, we will always assume who is telling the truth. And you are lucky indeed that you are Emily’s friend. You won the friend lottery and that is why you are still on Etsy.

    Heres another:
    Nouveau Motley’s original design:
    EDM Designs over priced copy:

  58. Pissed 06/15/2009 6:55 pm

EDM Designs has reared her ugly head again on another seller, doing the same things as she did with Rivka’s Mom. Her behavior is disgusting. Check out this listing:
and then this one that Edm Designs posted a week later:
Notice how she copied the design and title almost word for word and is screaming about how she is the first one to introduce watch parts into Steampunk culture. Are you kidding me, Ricky??!!! Also notice how she cannot produce a link to the same design that predates Nouveau Motley’s sale.

Check this asinine statement taken from Edm Designs listings:
“I have been using these pocket watch pieces for a long time on Etsy and essentially introduced the cutting edge designs of this meduim into mainstay in Steampunk designs you see around.”

  59. disgruntled etsyian 06/14/2009 1:32 am

I used to be big into Etsy, and then I started hearing about unethical behaviour like this through the Etsy forums…. that is, until they deleted the discussion threads.

They really don’t want people talking about copycat issues. And then there was the issue, something about the “Big 5″ or something like that? A bunch of well known shops that were closed down because the proprietors were too “noisy” in the forums. That was appalling.

I personally was going along unscathed, just listening and watching some of this stuff. I never thought any of that kind of stuff was going to affect ME. But THEN….

I had a shop with over 1,000 positive feedbacks. Etsy deleted my shop WITHOUT WARNING because they received ONE complaint from a buyer who claimed they had not received their item. I was working with the customer, trying to help her locate the package, and offering a refund if it never showed. (You can’t track a small First Class International package.) I was also in contact with Etsy about the complaint, pointing out the convos in which I was helping the customer, and they seemed satisified with that… at first.

Apparently the customer got tired of waiting and instead of asking me for a refund, reported to Etsy that I must have not sent the item and they promptly, without warning, deleted my shop. A two year old shop with 1,500 sales and over 1,000 positive feedbacks. Obviously I was not some fly-by-night…. when you send that many packages, something is bound to happen eventually as far as non-delivery. I don’t know how much I paid them over the years but my Etsy bill was usually at least $100/month.

I never wrote to them, never asked them to restore the shop. Obviously they didn’t want my business, and don’t know how to properly run their own business, so I just moved on.

Sell on Etsy if you wish… it can be fun… but don’t put all your eggs in Etsy’s basket, because you never know when they’ll decide to smash them.

  62. getsometaste 02/25/2009 3:52 am

Oh boo fucking hoo. Someone glued some watch parts you can find anywhere on widely available stock jewelery parts.

I’m so sick of steampunk arts and crafts hour….

  63. LM 02/09/2009 5:19 pm

All I can say is that the Internet is a bad place to try and be creative. The idea of creating is different than copying. You can’t call yourself an artist if you are copying an idea from someone else. That is a laborer making and selling something a designer gave them the pattern to mass produce.

That said, I have been selling my art on ebay for a zillion years. First ACEOs, collage and other paper arts. Being overwhelmed by coming up with orignial art only to be copied within days or weeks or while mine was still listed, I moved on to jewelry making thinking it would be original. Three years ago there were very few steampunk search listings compared to today. I was making jewelry out of parts and whole watch movements. Suddently, some of those same “paper” artists I recognized before are now creating steampunk jewelry. I guess you can look at a necklace that sells for $40 and say “hey, I can do that too.”

However… I will admit that I use some of the same findings that others use. It is difficult to say that an original idea is a ring finding and watch movement, especially now that so many people seem to be using the same suppliers for their findings. One must admit that watch parts and movements definitely are the same size and style and to create something unique is great–but then prove that you did is another–before it’s copies. Cufflinks are another obvious thing, it’s not exactly original these days unless it’s further embellished; that’s what is different (only to be copied days later probably).

I host my own pix on ebay and have no-right-click in order to protect my work for at least 7-days while they’re listed. I have hesitated to join etsy because your original art is on their server for a YEAR!? That gives EVERYBODY a chance to copy it. I have seen ebay “artists” clearly copying etsy and etsy jewelry “artists” copied from ebay. What do they think, nobody’s watching?? I am disenchanted by this whole mess now that I’ve ready your side. When I read the EDM nasty page I thought, geez, would she come after me? I’ve seen a few of–what I thought were MY original ideas–in her shop but never confronted her. I concluded that it was reasonable to assume that same shape watch pieces can only be configured so many ways.

Thanks for this posting. I still don’t like the idea of etsy making a decision to keep MY work on public display for such an extended amount of time.

The end (thanks for letting me go on and on…) Best of luck to you with your personal web site.

  64. RS 01/07/2009 10:28 am

Absolute and total support for you Rivkasmom, I’ve heard and seen it happen before with EDM. I am so glad to see you’ve risen above it and doing so well with your site.

  65. M 12/11/2008 11:07 pm

okay, the way she acted was rude and very immature.

however, looking at her designs it seems she saw your idea and took it further. The design has been done before, and you are not the first person to come up with it. For all you know she just felt like putting out newer and better designs right after you released something.

this isn’t a copy of your work. Just a rude person trying to get in your face by challenging your work.

  66. IDidToo! 12/06/2008 11:14 pm

Wow, Rivkasmom, now I understand why you left Etsy.

What is going on at Etsy? There are so many instances of nasty behavior going on not only between sellers when conducting business but with sellers verbally attacking each other in the forums

I have seen some of the most unprofessional behavior from sellers in the forums and I’m guessing it’s because they’re not really selling or making any money. Meanwhile, Etsy is sitting back, laughing at all the nonsense and making millions of dollars every month.

From now on, what I will do when I see a shop I like is check their profile and see if they have a standalone eCommerce site – and buy their stuff from there FIRST! If not, I’ll make a friendly suggestion to consider setting up their own website for people who’d rather buy from there. Buying from them on Etsy and, therefore, supporting this nonsense, will be the last resort.

  75. MeToo 11/27/2008 6:01 am

Etsy is notorious for shutting down shops. I have heard on numerous occasions that they have deleted an account and:
    A) Did so without informing them of what they did wrong, and letting the shop in question respond.
    B) Did so without all of the appropriate evidence before them.
    C) Did so in a manor that is clearly portraying them as playing favorites (especially Emily Bidwel)
    D) Did so by only taking into consideration a sellers suggestion.
Ex: PersonA’s shop is closed because personB accused them of buying out a shop. Etsy sides with personB because they are a cupcake. PersonA is unable to explain himself, because Etsy refuses to answer emails from those who are no longer Etsy customers. D’oh!!!

I’m so very sorry to hear this is happening to you, your work speaks for itself and the publicity it brings for you. It’s awesome and the other seller will never replicate your success. It’s just a shame you have to go through this.

    The copier’s shop announcement says

“A special hug to EB and she knows why”

EB= Emily Bidwell, Etsy’s Customer Service manager and the one who handles all abuse reports. EDM is publicly thanking Emily for unfairly closing Rivkasmom’s store and for allowing EDM to continue copying other Etsy artists.

  78. Zaidat 11/24/2008 2:28 am

Take a good look at her feedback. Got o page 53 and you will see that shortly after you signed up and started selling she was still selling supplies. And then bam, almost 5 weeks after you joined she lists her first Steampunk item. And just kept going. It is blatantly obvious.

You know what, there is an old saying that goes something like God don’t like ugly. Definitely applies here.

  83. missmonster 11/17/2008 5:40 am

Iam disgusted. So sorry you have to deal with this psycho. The whole thing is so frustrating just to hear about. I know the feeling of having someone take and use your own original work, it’s a terrible thing. Then threatening you? What is wrong with people…

  84. Nico 11/17/2008 2:11 am

Wow. Just wow. I have known of some of this but I had NO idea that she was thanking Emily Biden. This just furthers my belief that the only thing Etsy cares about is making money. I understand they are a business, but your customers are your business and when you mistreat them so many times, they will leave.

No wonder so many sellers are leaving Etsy for good.

  85. Anonymous 11/16/2008 2:58 am

I am very sorry Rivkasmom, this is truly a sad story but I hope this gets passed on and your story is made known – you should post it on your site. You have such a nice article here: ( and it’s really too bad the link is an error now because all you wanted to do was speak up.

    Best of luck to you.

I am absolutely shocked at all this! I was just getting ready to put in a custom order worth over $1,000 to EDM Designs (on Etsy) for my upcoming wedding. I had corresponded with R.W. and was going to have her make a complete jewelry set for myself and bridesmaids. Now that I see this unscrupulous behavior, I will be taking my business elsewhere. I do not support thievery. So glad I regularly read this site!

  90. Rivkasmom 11/13/2008 8:58 pm

Just to answer a few questions.

    1. The police and FBI have been notified, and are keeping a file on her, as is my attorney.
    2. Sarah Feingold works for Etsy, and will side with Etsy every time.
    3. NO, I did NOT delete EDM’s shop. I’m not the only person she’s copying out there. There are SEVERAL other sellers with gripes as big as mine.
    4. EDM renews her entire shop almost every other day, generating lots of listing fees for Etsy. I didn’t buy into the “renew daily” scam, and so Etsy chose the party that made them the most money.
    5. I did not close my shops, Etsy did. I also had a vintage and supplies shop that had nothing to do with all of this, and they closed that one too.
    6. Etsy has a policy against allowing sellers to air personal disputes in any part of their shop, and yet EDM’s paranoid rantings are allowed to stay. Admin has been made aware of the shop announcement, and they are not making her change it. Actually, that’s fine with me, because now everyone can see how unstable she is.

(You can find my new shop at

  91. jessi 11/13/2008 8:40 pm

I had a similar situation happen with myself. Etsy sent me some legal advice, and I dont think they even contacted the copycat, who had messaged me asking me to work with them! I said sorry that I couldnt work with them, so they went ahead and started ripping my originals off. Etsy told me not to talk openly about any of it-to anyone involved on Etsy. What the hell, right? I am supposed to just cower in the corner and let people take advantage of me? It’s disgusting, and not flattering at all, which some people will say. It’s making me more and more distant from Etsy and Im hoping to open my own website.

  92. danni 11/13/2008 7:53 pm

I was going to paste what she has written in her shop header but Idres already did.

I can’t believe this! Why did you close your shop? I am so sorry for what you have gone through. It is just sad. Did Etsy shut you down or did you do it yourself?

Who is she talking about when she says some bogus account has bought all her items – that wasn’t you right?

As a fellow etsy seller, it really disappoints me that situations like this can’t be handled in a professional and reasonable matter.

  93. Jason 11/13/2008 6:44 pm

Did you talk to Sarah Feingold? She is Etsy’s in house attorney. After some research I found that there have been several IP infringements and similar problems in the past on Etsy that were solved. Here are some related links:

I wish you (and others that have posted problems with Etsy on YTWWN) the best of luck in finding a fair resolve.

Due to the fact that a FORMER SELLER has illegally tampered with my account and has been shut down on ETSY, she is creating bogus accounts and buying out all my listed items without a stop. My shop “may appear empty” as long as she is out there able to do this. So far, she has “purchased” everything in my store – over 170 items – and then some to the tune of OVER $13,000.00

**** Special Thank Yous and hugs to all that have written to me to hang in and the caring support… It means a lot to see a tight knit community working together… A special hug to EB and she knows why… It’s my honor to be amongst your talents and kind hearts ****

Please don’t be shy – feel free to write if there is something on your mind or if you have any questions. Thank you for your trust in my work.

Please write me at kitanah_1@yahoo if you have any questions.

It looks like her account on Etsy is still live while yours is closed? Did you shut down your account?

I just don’t understand why they are protecting her. Why she (and so many others) are allowed to get away with things and the victims are the ones muted or banned.

This entire situation is VERY disheartening indeed.

Add it to the rest of the abuse and neglect etsy shows its sellers, and it’s enough to make a girl very very very angry.

something needs to be done around etsy about this sort of thing..And FAST!

I was going to open a store with Etsy soon, this does not fill me with confidence. If they are going to cut off a store owner, why not EDM Douchbags?

How to get rid of problems: get rid of the victims.
Sounds like some kind of mafia no?

    Etsy’s typical behavior.

Argh! Etsy is rife with people borrowing ideas. It’s lazy! But this definitely something more serious.

You need to share the emails with the police. If your child is being threatened then this is far more serious than a IP issue. If you sort that out the rest will be sorted.
